Unfortunately (from a user’s perspective) Time Machine backups don’t work anymore after your logic board or the laptop/desktop has been replaced. Reason: Time Machine depends on the MAC address to distinguish between different systems. There are solutions though that allow you to resume your backups from where you left off, and they are described in detail in this article in MacOSX Hints. I haven’t tried it yet, but because it looks like a slightly more involved job, it might be worth reading through the post’s comments and trying out a simpler solution suggestion first.
